Pain Management
Pain is a common complain of many people, but the causes and sensations of pain can be different for different people. For example, injuries usually cause acute sharp pains restricted to the injury sites, but arthritis or repetitive activities can cause chronic dull pains most commonly affecting the lower back, neck and shoulders, or the joints (knees and elbows). Pain medication can help with temporary pain relief, but is not a long-term solution because of the serious side effects of pain killers. However, acupuncture has its reputation for its effectiveness on treating various kinds of pain problems with minimal side effects. It helps reduce inflammation by improving local blood circulation to deliver nutrients to and remove noxious elements from the affected areas. Clinical studies have shown that acupuncture reduces pain and improve function and movement among patients with osteoarthritis of the knee when used with other treatments.
In our clinic, spinal therapy is often used for pain management. We select HuaTuoJiaJi points carefully based on individual patients’ problems. In addition to acupuncture of HuaTuoJiaJI points, we also use acupressure massage, cupping, heating, etc. to help improve blood circulation and alleviate pain. Patients who suffer from auto and sports injuries usually receive 30-minute acupuncture sessions twice per week and experience significant improvement after 8-12 weeks of treatment. Patients who suffer chronic pain may need more sessions depending on the severity of the problem.
